Adding Sexton to the already crowded backcourt in Houston does worry me that it could hinder the development of their younger guys. I have no clue how a Lauri/Alpy combo would work but I'd be enthralled to watch it.

In general I do agree that the Rockets need to consolidate their youth since they won't be able to pay all of them. I don't know the right answer but I'm thinking after half a season or so this year they need to start getting an idea of what they want that future to be.

If we view Brooks, Amen, and Whitmore as wings (I primarily do), then their backcourt becomes a lot less cramped... I think Sexton's playmaking (and shooting, with making 44.7% of his C&S 3's last year) would be sorely needed with Aaron Holiday as their 3rd guard.

Yeah that's fair. I guess I should've worded it more about how many perimeter players need touches on that team. It doesn't matter as much to me whether they are guards or wings, but I just imagine that Green and FVV are going to have their touches just be virtue of their position (and of course Sheppard too since they used such a high pick to get him). But the Rockets probably want to see more touches for Amen and Whitmore too to help their development. And given Brooks' history I don't imagine he's gonna be cool just being a low usage off ball guy. It's just a lot of mouths to feed and Sexton always struck me as more of a scoring guard than a playmaking one.

I think you got the draft spots wrong: Jalen Green was #2, Alpi was #16. Unless my English is bad, of course, but that's how i read it

I think San Antonio could be legit this year, so that could truly mean that yes, the Rockets could see a 11-12th seed season as a pretty good one. Like you, I'd keep Sengun and you still have time to see how Thompson develops (and yes, I'm putting the onus on him and not their center to shoot). You don't need a 39% 3-pointer here, just a serviceable one. And this is still an offensive focused league.

Not a situation I envy, though. I think some of the worst decisions you'll have to make in the league is around players that could conceivably be worth a max, but aren't, but you kind of need to max or close-to-max them.

To RFA, we go!

Also interesting to me you think the choice for the Rockets will be between Sengun and Thompson. I figured the choice was more likely to be between Sengun and Green. Did you have any thoughts about if/how the Rockets could move on from Green if they choose to go that route?
